Jimmy Savile victims to meet Steve Coogan 'in character' while filming upcoming BBC drama The Reckoning

According to reports, survivors of Jimmy Savile’s sexual abuse have chosen to meet with actor Steve Coogan while he is “in character” as a pedophile media personality on the set of an upcoming BBC drama about the scandal.

The writer of The Reckoning, slated for air in 2022, announced Neil McKay that a handful of victims of the disgraced DJ’s abuse will visit multiple filming locations to see the Alan Partridge star recreate moments from his life.

He explained : “It is clearly going to be strange. But they wanted to do it, they are well prepared, so it is going to be interesting.

“The victims concerned asked to be part of the filming as we tell their stories and the production has taken all appropriate safeguards to make this possible.

“The team works closely with many people whose lives have been influenced by Savile to ensure their stories are told with sensitivity and respect.”

He said, “Neil McKay wrote an intelligent script that empathizes with a terrible story that – so harrowing – needs to be told.”

The Reckoning, which has already received violent backlash from some members of the public for its “glorification” of true traumatic events, will haunt the depraved host through his early years in the dance halls of Northern England, his television career, to his ridden twilight years with rumors growing Private life.

After his death, a BBC-led investigation into the masses of abuse allegations found that he had abused approximately 72 children, some as young as eight years old, in a four-decade campaign of sexual abuse. His first victim is said to have been abused in 1959.

In discussing their decision to commission a miniseries about Savile’s life, the BBC production team claimed they “worked closely” with survivors whose lives had been affected by his abusive attacks to “ensure that their stories are told with sensitivity and be told respect ”.

The drama will also appear to touch vast and far-reaching sources of research, hoping to examine the impact Savile’s horrific crimes had on his vulnerable victims, as well as the impotence of many when they tried to raise the alarm.

Despite the show’s as-yet-to-be-announced release date, numerous photos of Coogan dressed as Jimmy Savile have come to light during filming in numerous locations across Manchester.
