Just one place has zero coronavirus as worst cities see rate triple

Only one location in England has had no cases of coronavirus in the last seven days, as the rate almost tripled in a week in the hardest hit cities.

In Bolton, 628 new cases were recorded in the seven days ended September 21 – that’s 218.4 per 100,000 people.

Bolton continues to have the highest rate in England, from 201.0 in the seven days to September 14th.

South Tyneside has the second highest rate of 310 new cases from 100.7 to 205.3.

Burnley ranks third, where the rate rose from 112.5 to 204.7 with 182 new cases.

Other areas where the 7-day rates have risen sharply are:

– Newcastle upon Tyne (from 69.0 to 193.2 with 585 new cases)

– Halton (from 87.3 to 177.7, with 230 new cases)

– Knowsley (from 124.0 to 204.2 with 308 new cases)

– Manchester (from 85.6 to 165.7 with 916 new cases)

– Liverpool (from 116.9 to 192.2 with 957 new cases)

Numbers for the seven days leading up to September 21 are based on tests conducted in laboratories (Pillar 1 of the government’s testing program) and in the wider community (Pillar 2).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the last three days (September 22-24) have been excluded because they are incomplete and likely to be revised.

The list was calculated by the PA news agency and is based on data from Public Health England released on the government’s coronavirus dashboard on September 24th.

Here is the full list. From left to right reads: Name of the local authority; Rate of new cases in the seven days ending September 21; Number (in brackets) of new cases registered in the seven days up to September 21; Rate of new cases in the seven days ending September 14; Number (in brackets) of new cases registered in the seven days ended September 14th.
