Kate Middleton nodded touchingly to her late mother-in-law Diana and the Queen in her 40th birthday photos.
Three photos of the Duchess of Cambridge were released to celebrate the special milestone in her life.
In all three pictures she was styled in clothes by Alexander McQueen – which also has a special meaning for the Duchess, since she was married to Prince William in a dress from the fashion house.

Kate’s dress was designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, and the Duchess worked closely with Burton on the design of the dress.
The bodice was inspired by the Victorian tradition of corsetry, and her train was nearly eight feet long.
In two of the photos posted for her birthday, Kate pairs flowing white dresses with Princess Diana’s earrings while beaming for the camera.
The gems she wears with her scarlet dress were borrowed from the queen.
The public can see the photos in person at a number of locations significant to the life of the Duchess of Cambridge.
They are featured in the Coming Home exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Berkshire, where Kate grew up.
The pictures are also shown in St. Andrews, where Kate met Prince William, and in Anglesey, where the couple shared their first married home.
