Kevin Spacey returns in an Italian film directed by Franco Nero.
Louis Nero, producer of Franco Nero’s upcoming low budget indie “L’uomo Che Disegnò Dio”, confirmed to variety that Spacey is on board to make a cameo in the film. According to Louis Nero, Spacey would play a small role as a police officer. Franco Nero will appear as the main character.
This casting marks the embarrassed actor’s first film role after several sexual assaults and allegations of misconduct brought against him from late 2017.
abc news reported on Spacey’s casting on May 22nd and also wrote that the film will star Vanessa Redgrave, Franco Nero’s wife. Louis Nero confirmed to Variety that Redgrave will appear in the film when she can travel from England to Italy, but would only make a minor cameo as the piano teacher of Franco Nero’s character.
“I am very happy that Kevin agreed to be part of my film,” Franco Nero told ABC News. “I think he’s a great actor and I can’t wait to start the film.” Spacey declined a request for comment.
According to the Filmitalia website, the low-budget indie film “follows the rise and fall of a blind artist who has the extraordinary ability to take true-to-life portraits by only listening to human voices”.
Spacey was removed from his lead role in Netflix’s “House of Cards” in November 2017 as sexual assault and allegations of misconduct against him increased. At least 20 young men involved in the Old Vic, the London theater of which Spacey was artistic director, reported allegations of sexual misconduct against Spacey in 2017. In 2018, Spacey was charged with indecent assault in Nantucket Island, Massachusetts with a teenager. Spacey pleaded not guilty and charges were later dropped when the alleged victim withdrew his civil suit.
Los Angeles officials also reviewed two sexual assaults against Spacey, but ultimately found that one case fell outside their statute of limitations and the other was dismissed when the alleged victim died. Last year, a man in New York anonymously filed a lawsuit against Spacey alleging that Spacey sexually abused him in the 1980s when he was 14. However, on May 3, a federal judge ruled that the man could not file the lawsuit anonymously.
Spacey last played in 2018 at the Billionaire Boys Club, which grossed a gritty $ 2.7 million at the box office.
