Latest weekly Covid-19 rates for every local authority in England

Here is the update of the 7-day rolling new rate of Covid-19 for all local governments in England on Monday.

The numbers for the seven days leading up to September 25 are based on tests conducted in laboratories (Pillar 1 of the government’s testing program) and in the wider community (Pillar 2).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the last three days (September 26-28) have been excluded because they are incomplete and likely to be revised.

Knowsley has the highest rate in England, with 422 new cases recorded in the seven days to September 25 – that’s 279.7 cases per 100,000 people.

That is an increase of 152.5 in the seven days leading up to September 18.

Burnley has the second highest rate with 240 new cases from 157.4 to 269.9.

Liverpool ranks third, where the rate rose from 165.4 to 262.2 with 1,306 new cases.

Other areas where the 7-day rates have risen sharply are:

  • Newcastle upon Tyne (from 111.6 to 238.1 with 721 new cases)
  • Manchester (from 140.7 to 207.3, with 1,146 new cases)
  • Sunderland (from 107.3 to 185.8, with 516 new cases)
  • Birmingham (from 96.2 to 145.1, with 1,657 new cases)

The list was calculated by the PA news agency and is based on data from Public Health England released on the government’s coronavirus dashboard on September 28.

Here is the full list.
