LineageOS: Successor to CyanogenMod, a famous Android custom operating system project, LineageOS inherited the important mission of bringing updates to old cell phone models.
Since its launch in December 2016, the project has launched modified versions of the Android system (aka ROMs) for different brands and types of devices, with millions of users worldwide.
Risks and Benefits of LineageOS
The reason for LineageOS “Success is given by the interface’s vast array of new features and customization options, in addition to the ability to try out new versions of Android on old models. Also striking is the package of measures aimed at user security and privacy, the credibility of which is reinforced by the format of the development of the system, in open code.
However, there is a major barrier to adoption that keeps some users from enjoying the benefits of the system: the need to run a process to ‘unlock’ the devices recovery mode – which should not be confused with root. If the procedure is performed incorrectly, it can cause discomfort or even permanent out of use of the device.
For this reason too, mobile phone manufacturers determine that the process could void the warranty benefits of the handsets – and thus the launch of LineageOS for older models.
In this context, if the user has a mobile phone or tablet compatible with the ROM, TecMundo has prepared an uncomplicated manual to guide you through the process. See how:
