Live: Boris Johnson addresses nation on England's winter Covid plan

Downing Street Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to make an announcement to address England’s Covid plans for the winter.

The measures were announced in Parliament today by England’s Minister of Health, Sajid Javid.

Mr Javid says the government has a Plan A and a Plan B to fight the pandemic – Plan A is for the state we are in right now, while Plan B is put in place if the situation gets worse.

The rules apply in England, with the decentralized nations deciding which rules apply.

Plan B provides for vaccination records to be made mandatory in some locations and for face masks to be made mandatory again by law in shops and public transport.

People would be encouraged to work from home. And a lockdown is not ruled out – although it is the absolute last resort.

Mr Johnson will speak just hours after the loss of his mother, professional painter Charlotte Johnson Wahl, who did it last night at the age of 79.
