Live: PM addresses nation on Covid next-steps

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will host a press conference on Downing Street this afternoon.

He is accompanied by England’s Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty and Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance.

Mr Johnson is expected to cover preparations for a further relaxation of England’s lockdown rules, which allow non-essential retail and beer gardens to reopen in just a week.

Other announcements about international travel, vaccination records and free Covid tests will also be made at the press conference.

According to reports, vaccination records will be operational in England as early as June.

As early as June 21, passes will be required for large venues such as soccer fields and nightclubs.

Pubs could then be asked to require proof of a sting or negative test in the future if they want to drop all social distancing requirements.

The government has already said that foreign holidays will not be allowed until May 17th at the earliest.

It is reported that a traffic light system with red, amber and green ratings for countries could come into effect.

The Prime Minister is also expected to cover the restrictions, which will be lifted in a week’s April 12th.
