London Bridge station evacuated after 'suspicious item' found on train

Armed police were called to the scene and London Bridge Station was evacuated after a “suspicious item” was reported on a train.

UK traffic police said the Southwark station in south London had been closed as a precaution while officials analyzed the item. reports the mirror.

A man stuck on a train said passengers were told that a “suspicious device” had been found while another witness said it was described as an “unattended package” and people “ran out” the train station when the building was vacated.

Trains are being diverted while emergency services respond to an incident, several rail companies have confirmed.

National Rail said there would be no trains at the station until about 3 p.m.

One passenger told how a “suspicious package” was found on a carriage next to the one she was sitting on.

She tweeted, “I’ll be quiet about my business if the police get on my train and say there’s a suspicious package in the car next to mine and I need to evacuate the train.

“Then we had to evacuate the platform. Then we had to evacuate the station.”

People stuck on trains near London Bridge had to disembark on the tracks.
