A police officer is hospitalized with serious injuries after an accident occurred when officers tried to stop a car.
West Yorkshire Police said officers were trying to stop a vehicle traveling east on the M62 when it pulled into the Humberside area at 11:24 p.m. Friday night.
Police said there was a collision between the car and two police vehicles, adding that one of the police vehicles left the lane and collided with a bridge pier.
“One policeman suffered severe leg injuries as a result and was taken to a hospital where he is in a serious but not life-threatening condition,” the police said.
Four people from the non-police vehicle have been arrested and are in custody.
Three of them were injured – one sustained neck and back injuries and two others sustained minor injuries.
The police said that the Independent Police Conduct Department had been notified.
The M62 heading east from junction 34-35 is likely to remain closed for some time as the investigation continues.
