Man detained after 'shots fired' near Crawley College – updates

Police say a man was arrested “after reports of gunfire” near Crawley College in West Sussex.

In a tweet, Sussex police said: “A man was arrested after reports of gunfire near Crawley College. Please stay out of the area at this time. There is a large police presence on site and in the area.

“We will provide more information as soon as we are able to.”

In a previous tweet, Sussex police said, “We are aware of and are responding to reports of an incident on College Road, Crawley. Please stay out of the area until further notice.”

In a further statement on Monday, her spokesman said the police received several calls shortly after 3:10 p.m.

“A man was arrested by the police at the scene.

“Staff and students are being evacuated from college. Two people have sustained injuries that are not believed to be serious.

“We will provide more information as soon as possible.”

Crawley College is a college of continuing education and offers courses ranging from sixth grade through adult education to undergraduate courses.
