An annoying caller who repeatedly dialed 999 and burped on police answering machines was arrested for the second time.
Peterborough’s Rhys Pilott was jailed for public harassment last year but released early for good behavior.
After the 28-year-old was released from prison, he started making prank calls again.
Cambridgeshire police said Pilott dialed 999 and burped on answering machines more than 80 times and arrested five times.
Once the troops received 24 emergency calls from Pilott within 45 minutes, which blocked the emergency call line and the answering machine could no longer receive genuine emergency calls.
He was arrested again in October that year on charges of causing public nuisance, which he admitted in Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, Cambridgeshire Police said.
The troops said he was detained for six months on November 23.
Superintendent Mike Branston said, “Individuals who feel the need to abuse the 999 service in this way should consider how they would feel if a loved one needs emergency assistance but cannot get through.”
