A man left his dead parents and swam through shark-infested water after a terrible fishing accident.
Ryan Oostryck made the daring escape after the boat on which he was with his mother Jan and his father Bob capsized.
Together with his girlfriend Anastasia, Ryan swam to the coast for 3 km through Australia’s famous shark-infested water.
The group had only left Coral Bay an hour before the 6.1m boat overturned.
Bob and Jan, who were in their 70s, were knocked out and caught underwater by the boat. ABC reported.
“Our family is devastated and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved Bob and Jan Oostryck,” the family said in a statement.
“Bob and Jan were incredible people, full of life and they did what they loved in a place they loved.
“We are so proud of Ryan and Galina and words cannot explain how grateful everyone is to have them back safely.
“The family is deeply injured and we ask the media to respect our privacy in this difficult time.”
Ryan and Anastasia spent half an hour trying to revive Bob and Jan before swimming back on the shore.
They attached the couple to the boat, grabbed two life jackets, and swam ashore for four hours.
They then walked two and a half hours until they reached some campers on the beach.
According to News.com.au. Mark Flesken, acting superintendent of the Pilbara district, said: “The younger couple made it to the surface.
“Shortly afterwards, the couple appeared in the 70s, but unfortunately at that point it seemed as if they had died.”
He noticed that the waves that swam ashore were big enough to knock the boat over.
A friend wrote on Facebook: “RIP together, may your days now be looking at other fishing enthusiasts.
“Our deepest sympathy goes to Ryan and Anastasia, who were also on board. I can’t imagine the pain you’re in. “
