Many feared dead with 'no sign of life' after train derails in Tunnel

At least four people died, with many others injured, after a train derailed in a tunnel in Taiwan.

Rescuers are still struggling to reach crushed wagons, with several people reported as injured.

The disaster occurred in eastern Taiwan on Friday. According to the local fire department, more than 20 people were injured.

The train going to Taitung came off the rails in a tunnel north of Hualien, causing some cars to hit the wall of the tunnel, the fire department said in a statement.

At least four people are believed to be dead and three people with serious injuries have been hospitalized.

About 20 have suffered minor injuries and are waiting to go to hospital, the statement said.

The train carried around 350 people and the rescue efforts are ongoing, the department said.
