Martin Freeman will 'always love' Amanda Abbington despite dating French actress

Actor Martin Freeman has said he will “always love” his 16-year-old partner despite dating a French actress.

The Hobbit and Sherlock star was in a relationship with fellow actress Amanda Abbington for 16 years from 2000 to 2016.

The couple have two children together, Joe and Grace.

They met on the set of the television movie Men Only in 2000 and also starred in the television series The Robinsons.

From 2014 to 2017, the couple acted as husband and wife in the BBC adaptation of Sherlock.

The distance caused by Martin’s filming in the United States, including for the Marvel film Black Panther, contributed to the breakup.

When Martin announced the news in an interview with the Financial Times, he said, “I’m not with Amanda anymore. It’s very, very friendly – I’ll always love Amanda. “

The 50-year-old now has a new girlfriend, French actress Rachel Mariam, 29, with reports of the couple’s relationship breaking out in 2020.

The couple have often been pictured together at events like the Raindance Film Festival in October 2021, and Rachel often shares photos of them on her social media.

Rachel was born in Toulouse and now lives in London. She starred in the popular BBC Three series Normal People and the TV series This Way Up.

She is also a screenwriter and wrote and produced the Call It A Day television series. This year she can be seen in the new TV series Citadel with Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci and Murder in Provence with Keala Settle.

Both Martin and Amanda have publicly said the breakup was amicable, and last year she spoke to a mental health campaign saying that she believed the breakup “harmed” her children.

She said, “I’m sure I’ve done you irreparable harm and you will eventually go to therapy because of me and Martin.”

She said that both she and Martin encourage the children to speak openly about their mental health.
