Michelle Obama talks family being together again during coronavirus pandemic

Former first lady Michelle Obama has been busy during coronavirus quarantine, but she took the time to talk to television host Ellen DeGeneres about the outbreak and its implications for her family on Monday.

DeGeneres, who shares videos chatting with her friends while socializing away from her home in Santa Barbara – shared a video of her vocation from the former first lady.

The two talked about the Obama girls – Sasha, 18 and Malia, 21 – who were back home after returning from university during the outbreak.

“My condolences for the children to be at home,” DeGeneres quipped. “Because you said how happy you are that they’re gone.”

“I know, I shouldn’t have bragged about that,” Obama laughed. “The gods are taking me back!”

Obama added that this is a unique time in history and has been a learning experience for her family.

“There is a right and a wrong that goes with it. I feel for all the people who will suffer because of what’s going to happen to the economy and we need to think carefully about what we’re going to do to support those people when this quarantine is over,” she said. “And that’s a negative, but on the plus side, I know for us, it forces us to sit together, to have real conversations – you know – to really ask questions and figure out how we’re doing without just TV or computers. “

She said she wants her children to understand that they are lucky to have each other and their health in difficult times like now.

“Be thankful for what you have and be willing to share it when the time comes. Because that’s really what it’s all about, ”Obama explained. “Now we’re just happy to be together and everyone is healthy and safe – who cares about the other things?”

“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” interrupted production – like most television shows – amid the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, DeGeneres said they expect to resume shooting on March 30.
