Mother-of-three Cristina Vita Aranda, who is married to Club Olimpia player Ivan Torres, died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head in the VIP area of a concert hall in the Paraguayan capital of Asuncion
The exemplary wife of a top Paraguayan footballer has been shot dead at a concert.
Cristina Vita Aranda, who has three children with Club Olimpia player Ivan Torres, was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
Local reports said left-back Torres, a former U20 international, was also at the concert and helped take his wife to hospital, although the model and influencer recently announced they were looking to divorce after 10 years of marriage.
She is believed to have been caught in the crossfire of a shooting in the VIP area of a concert hall in the Paraguayan capital of Asuncion, although police and prosecutors are still investigating yesterday’s shooting.
A man named Marcos Ignacio Rojas Mora also died. According to unconfirmed reports, the intended target was a drug dealer identified at the scene as Ederson Salinas Benitez.
Four people, between the ages of 23 and 40, were also shot and are now being treated in hospital.
Ivan, who started his career at Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno before joining arch-rivals Club Olimpia in December 2014, is said to have suffered a panic attack but was unhurt.
Local television footage showed one of the victims being carried out of the amphitheater on a stretcher by security forces and paramedics, while a man who also appeared injured was led to the exit by two men who helped him walk.
Yolanda Gonzalez, director of Itaugua Nacional Hospital, confirmed the death of 29-year-old Cristina, saying: “She was intubated when she arrived and attempts were made to revive her for at least 25 minutes after she went into cardiac arrest.
“She died after lengthy attempts to save her life.”
Vita Aranda, who described herself as a personal trainer to her 445,000 followers on Instagram, although she also worked as a model and was often labeled an influencer in her home country, posted footage of her working out at the gym four days before her death.
She wrote alongside the selfie video of her weightlifting, “People think I only go to the gym so I can show off a good physique.
“What they don’t know is that it controls stress and anxiety, improves my morale, and gives me physical and mental strength and confidence.”
Cristina and her husband posed together for a Christmas photo before the brunette recently announced they had decided to end their relationship.
Ivan, who has yet to comment publicly on Sunday’s tragedy, wrote: “Family united and the table set, the special thing about every Christmas.”
Following the news of their split, the footballer said in a photo he posted with his children: “I’ve always been a very sincere person and today I’m very sad and in a lot of pain, but still today I’m here to give my best and always fight.
“Thank you to my family, teammates and ex-teammates for supporting me at this difficult moment.”

They were still husband and wife when the shooting took place and were believed to be trying to make things right between them.
A group called Binomio de Oro was on stage when the shooting took place. The concert was canceled immediately.
Ivan Torres played for top division club Atlético Colon between his time at Club Olimpia in Argentina. After his loan period expired, he returned to Paraguay in 2017.
