Vaccination Minister Nadhim Zahawi said the British vaccination program saved more than 14,000 lives.
Speaking at a press conference on Downing Street, the Tory minister revealed that 44,500 hospital admissions had also been averted in England – 2,500 in the past two weeks.
Minister Zahawi has also praised the young people signing up for their first syringes since the offer was opened to all adults aged 18 and over in recent days.
He said, “I was absolutely thrilled to see videos of young people signing up for some of our major vaccination events last weekend, and I’m sure they will do the same next weekend.
“The enthusiasm makes a big difference.
“We have already given their first doses to almost half of all 25-29 year olds in England and just a week after the program opened to all adults on Friday, a third of people between 18 and 25 years of age received their first dose.
“I want to say a big thank you to all the young people who have set out – you have protected yourself, you have protected your families and your communities because the only thing you know is that we know is that vaccines make the real difference. “
