A mother of five who had just saved her children from a fire in her home died when the burning ceiling collapsed over her.
Gulnara Kostelnyuk had managed to get her children, all under 14 years old, out of the fire-ravaged property and to save their lives.
The fire started late Wednesday evening when family members were sleeping in their beds in the Russian city of Yakutsk.
Firefighters say the flame started from a stove in the kitchen and quickly ripped through the wooden house.
The property had gone up in flames and filled with thick smoke when Gulnara’s older son, 14, was awakened and sounded the alarm.
After realizing they were trapped in a burning room, 31-year-old Gulnara reportedly rushed to a window and broke the glass.
She helped her older son climb outside through the window and then handed him his four younger siblings.
After Gulnara evacuated her children, she tried to escape but was killed when a wooden beam fell on her from the burning ceiling.
Her body was found by a fire team who arrived at the scene after calling the neighbors.
One of the children, a nine-year-old girl, was brought to intensive care with burns and carbon monoxide poisoning.
The others, including two boys aged six and one and a four-year-old girl, received numerous cuts on their faces and limbs.
Experts say that a malfunction in the furnace could cause the fire.
You are now investigating the scene to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Gulnara’s husband Aleksey Kostelnyuk was at work when the fire burst.
The man, devastated by the death of his wife, told the local media: “My wife took care of our children.” I don’t know how to deal with it without her. “
The victim’s older sister, Anastasia, said, “My mother called me around 4am. Said Gulnara was gone.
” We told the younger kids that she was in a hospital. We don’t want to traumatize them.
“ The older boy is still in shock. His mother died before him.
“He doesn’t speak and does everything automatically.
“ He’s going to a psychologist next week. ”
