The mother of two has not been with an Entist for six years after her NHS surgery shut down.
Danielle said, “My teeth are literally falling out. It’s not that I have to get the pliers out – just twist or pull a little and they’re free. I don’t enjoy it, trust me. It’s not like I have a weird fetish or something.
“I always have an infection in my mouth – I have pain every day. When I have a small lump that shows up I tend to squeeze it and it breaks out with pus coming out.
“If I squeeze my gums, pus will come out without an abscess.”
She added, “It’s not like I’ve given up my dental hygiene. I brush my teeth every day. When MyDentist closed they didn’t direct us anywhere. They are now open again, but not for NHS patients.
“When I went into a private dentist, they gave me a pamphlet priced at £ 180 before I even sat in the chair. I can’t afford to do this initial exam and then everything else.
“I don’t expect free treatment. I know there is a cost, but if I can’t get through a door I don’t know what I’m seeing.
“I can’t help but not be able to get the help I needed.”

Danielle said, “I want someone to look in my mouth and my children’s mouths. I don’t want my children to be viewed the way I know I will be viewed.
“I’m paranoid. It’s horrible to get into a situation and all you think is ‘I don’t have teeth, I can’t speak properly, what are you going to think of me?’
“Even when I’m walking down the street, if someone makes eye contact and I smile, ‘Oh my god, I smiled, shit,’ and close my mouth.”
