A mom shared a cheap trick to make your kids’ school shoes look their best without having to buy a new pair.
With our children finally back to school and many of us unemployed, it may be time to buy them new clothes.
But when money is tight, many of us can struggle to afford new clothes, especially when many of us have lost our jobs due to the pandemic.
However, one mom came up with a great trick to make black shoes look their best without buying a new pair.
Mother Veronique McDermott was understandably reluctant to buy a new pair of shoes when they were worn out.
So she decided instead to hide the scratch marks with nail polish and sharpie pen, try electrical tape – and never looked back.
She said, “When I bought my child’s first pair of school shoes in three weeks, she had damaged her toes, which looked awful, but I couldn’t bring myself to buy another pair because I knew the shoes were still had a lot of life.
“So I thought I was going to tape the toes with electrical wire tape. They took forever and I’ve now done the second round with the same pair. Ready to hold for a few more months, hopefully!”
Hundreds of parents have responded to Veronique’s post and rave about her “incredible idea”.
“Game Changer” said one mother while another added, “I’m in my third place in school now and that’s really awesome lol !! It’s that easy and I never thought I would! Thanks lol! X”
The mother of one told the M.E.N. that “not a single person noticed the shoe repair” and when she pointed it out, “they are all shocked at what it appears to be the shoes they originally bought”.
“I was disgusted with the idea of throwing out almost new shoes and thought of a lot of different ways to save them,” she said. “I tried nail polish and sharpie and it didn’t stop or look really obvious. I saw the tape and thought about trying and it looked amazing.
“When my friend asked if I could do the same with her daughters’ shoes, I realized that other mothers might find it useful. So I told the group that I wasn’t expecting such a big reaction.”
