The father of “10 babies” who were born in South Africa and made headlines around the world allegedly says he doesn’t think his girlfriend ever gave birth to 10 babies.
It was believed that Gosiame Thamara Sithole gave birth to the seven boys and three girls naturally conceived by caesarean section and at 29 weeks in Pretoria on June 7th.
The news and pictures of Gosiame, 37, spread last week claiming she broke a world record after giving birth to 10 babies.
But now, in a dramatic turn, her partner Tebogo Tsotetsi is said to have said that he had “seen no evidence of the existence of the decuplets”.
His family said in a statement that they had therefore come to the conclusion that “until proven otherwise, no decuplets are born between Tebogo Tsotetsi and Gosiame Sithole”.
Concerns about Gosiame’s whereabouts are also reportedly increasing as a missing person case has opened.
The statement of the Tsotetsi family, reported from News 24, read: “He (Tsotetsi) made several attempts to visit his girlfriend and the babies, but she failed to reveal their whereabouts and the condition of their babies.
“The current uncertainties and the public discourse about the decuplets are of great concern to the family, especially since there is no evidence of the existence of the decuplets, other than phone and WhatsApp messages from the mother.
“The family has decided and established that no decuplets were born between Tebogo Tsotetsi and Gosiame Sithole until proven otherwise, and would like to apologize for any inconvenience and embarrassment.”
Government officials had previously said they could find no evidence that a woman gave birth to 10 children.
Tebogo Tsotetsi reportedly briefed local media outlets, including Pretoria News, about the decuplets he received from his girlfriend.
Family spokesman Russell Baloyi told Times Live, “We realize that, given the conflicting statements that have come out, the situation has been so chaotic for the country that it is time to calm this down and move on Facts to work.
“The mother’s whereabouts are still unknown.
“As for pregnancy, the reality was that the mother was pregnant.”
The statement said the family would work with the government to find the mother to bring her home safely.
