A human skeleton was found on the floor of a disused elevator in a hospital in India that had not been open for 24 years.
The mysterious find was in the OPEC hospital in the district of Kaili of Basti in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. discovered
Engineers were repairing the hospital’s elevator when the dire discovery was made on September 1st.
The identity of the dead found in the elevator is currently unknown and authorities have sent DNA from the skeleton to a laboratory for examination.
Police are also looking for people who were reported missing more than two decades ago.
Police are searching missing reports from 24 years ago to identify the remains, according to local media company India Today.
Construction work on the hospital began back in 1991 and the elevator was in operation until 1997, according to police, when it collapsed.
The elevator hadn’t been in service for many years, but now, 24 years later, the bosses decided it was time to fix it.
But when the workers opened the elevator and looked under it, they had a nasty surprise, because there they found a human skeleton.
It is currently unclear how the person died and why their body was in the elevator in the first place.
Police spokesman Deependra Nath Choudhary said, “If a written complaint is made on this matter, we will register a case.
“The police are currently investigating from several angles. To solve the mystery of the male skeleton, 24 police stations were used in the district.”
According to the Indian authorities, the investigation is ongoing.
It comes after scientists found a collection of “beautifully preserved” bones in an underground desert cave.
