Winter sports enthusiasts may not be able to hit the slopes this winter as some of the UK’s leading tour operators have canceled all December ski holidays.
Inghams, Esprit Ski, Ski Total and Flexiski will not be running the usual winter sports breaks and Christmas trips to Lapland to blame the Covid restrictions and ongoing uncertainty about travel restrictions for moving to another hammer blow for the industry.
Joe Ponte, Managing Director of Hotelplan UK, which owns the ski brands, said: “After another lockdown began and continued uncertainty over travel restrictions for the remainder of 2020, we have made the extremely difficult decision to suspend all ski and ski brands. ” Lapland holidays from December 2020 in our Inghams, Esprit, Ski Total and Flexiski programs.
“We know this will be a huge disappointment for our customers, so it is not a decision we made lightly. Above all, the safety of our guests and our employees continues to have top priority.
“Unfortunately, given the ongoing restrictions in the UK and Europe coupled with the unpredictable and evolving situation of Covid-19, this is the right decision.”
The announcement follows Tui UK’s confirmation that trips to Lapland have been suspended this year due to the coronavirus crisis.
Last month, Crystal Ski, owned by Tui, announced that there would be no winter holidays in countries on the UK quarantine list.
