The nurse behind a petition signed by more than 45,000 people aiming to “bring Downing Street partygoers to justice” hopes this will lead to Boris Johnson’s sacking.
Elissa Harper, 55, started the petition after details of a bring your own alcohol event emerged from outside her household during the first Covid lockdown on May 20th.
Today (Wednesday 12 January) the Prime Minister in the House of Commons admitted that he had attended the meeting for about 25 minutes to “thank groups of staff” but “in retrospect I should have sent them all back.”
Mr Johnson insisted he believed it was a “work event,” and Downing Street said he has never received an email asking staff to bring a bottle and “take advantage of the fine weather “.
Mrs. Harper, a nurse from Skegness, said Lincolnshire Live : “Most of the country obeyed the rules they made and they went to an alleged party. They seemed to have done it.
“They’re in a position of trust. It’s despicable. People couldn’t see their dying loved ones, people couldn’t work, or people lost their jobs. Now it looks like they’re laughing at us.”
She said apologizing or resigning would not be enough in her opinion.
“He should be fired. He should be fired and dismissed. It is not enough for him to apologize or even resign,” she said.
The title of the petition is: “After reports of another illegal lockdown party on Downing Street, I am committed to bringing those involved to justice.”
In an email received from ITV on Jan.
It read: “Hello everyone, after an incredibly busy time, we thought it would be nice to take advantage of the nice weather and have a few socially distant drinks in the No10 garden tonight.
“Please come to us from 6 p.m. and bring your own schnapps!”
Ms. Harper wants to get 50,000 signatures on her petition, and afterward she said she wanted it to keep gaining momentum “until something serious is done about it”.
