A man appeared before a Crown Court judge charged with the attempted murder of a nine-year-old boy who was repeatedly stabbed to death.
Faisal Khan, 24, is accused of following the child down a street in Peterborough and assaulting them on May 8th.
Almond Road Defendant Dogsthorpe appeared before Cambridge Crown Court on Monday.
A court official said Khan had not been asked to bring charges of attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.
The case was adjourned until July 2 while psychiatric reports were being drawn up, the court official said, with a preliminary trial date set for December 15.
Cambridgeshire police said the boy was walking his older brother when he was attacked on Peveril Road and sustained multiple injuries to his face and head.
The officers were called to the scene by the ambulance service at 3:24 p.m.
The boy was initially taken to Peterborough City Hospital with life changing injuries and was later taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in stable condition.
