Paris may face new lockdown as ICUs fill up

PARIS – Officials say the Paris area may be headed for a new lockdown as new variants of the virus fill intensive care units and limited vaccine supplies hamper vaccination efforts.

Special medical planes sent patients from the Paris region to less saturated regions over the weekend.

“If we have to close, we will,” said the head of the national health department, Jerome Salomon, on BFM television on Sunday. “The situation is complex, tense and deteriorating in the Paris region.”
