Paris Saint-Germain women's soccer player arrested in attack on teamate

A player from the Paris Saint-Germain women’s football team was arrested by police in France in connection with an attack on one of her teammates, the club said.

Midfielder Aminata Diallo (26) was taken into police custody on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation “after an attack on the club’s players last Thursday evening,” the team said. The club did not name the injured player.

“Paris Saint-Germain strongly condemns the violence committed. Since Thursday evening, November 4th, the club has taken all necessary measures to ensure the health, well-being and safety of its players, “said the club in a statement opinion.

The arrest came the day after Diallo replaced her injured teammate Kheira Hamraoui for the Champions League game against Real Madrid.

French sports newspaper The team was the first to report the arrest was related to a violent attack against Hamraoui, a PSG midfielder, on November 4th.

After a team dinner organized by PSG, Hamraoui was sitting in a car driven by Diallo when two masked men showed up around 10:30 p.m., dragged her from the passenger seat and allegedly hit her in the legs with an iron bar, the newspaper reported. The attack lasted a few minutes, then the attackers fled, according to L’Equipe, citing sources familiar with the incident.

Hamraoui, 31, suffered injuries to both legs and hands in the attack, according to the newspaper.

“PSG is working closely with Versailles’ SRPJ (Service Régional de Police Judiciaire) to clarify the facts,” said the club, adding that it would consider what action should be taken.

In January 1994, Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly orchestrated an attack on her skating rival Nancy Kerrigan, who was hit in the legs with a baton and forced to withdraw from the US Figure Skating Championships. In the end, Harding won the competition.
