Viewers have reached out on social media to share their thoughts on the news. Piers Morgan has left the ITV series Good Morning Britain.
It has been confirmed that following a backlash to his recent on-air comments on The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, following her television interview with Oprah Winfrey, the presenter is leaving with immediate effect.
Ofcom announced an investigation into Morgan’s comments after 41,000 complaints were filed against him, a 15-year high.
The announcement, released on Tuesday evening (March 9), means he won’t be returning to the ITV show despite a record high in ratings announced on Monday. reports MirrorOnline.
ITV announced in a statement: “After speaking to ITV, Piers Morgan has decided that now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
“ITV accepted this decision and nothing else to add.”
Many viewers of the program were delighted with the rear of the divisive presenter and his fighting style. One said, “Good Morning Britain might actually be on show now.”
Another viewer wrote, “I bet there are a lot of happy people on #GMB in front of and behind the cameras over the news about piers. Unfortunately, he only blames himself.”
Another said: “Absolutely right decision. ITV can’t advertise getting the UK talking and a host on the first morning show speaks out about Meghan’s bad thoughts.
“Then he is called by his co-host and storms away after 30 seconds. Responsibility is everything. Piers had to leave.”
This was confirmed by another viewer who said, “Well that’s the first right decision. Now, please let the second right decision be to replace Piers Morgan with @alexberesfordTV.”
Morgan fans expressed dismay at his departure, commenting, “Sorry I can’t get a handle on GMB every day now. We all know Piers Morgan could be too open at times, but he’s great entertainment for a morning!” Ratings will drop dramatically !!
“Who else is going to ask these politicians the right questions?”
Another said, “The world has gone mad. Except you left.”
“Just like most terrestrial televisions. #GMB will be gone now without Piers Morgan, “said another, warning,” don’t be surprised if he starts his own online show like many do these days. ”
Another tweet read, “Well, I’m pretty sad about that @piersmorgan has left GMB. I agreed with him on the H&M theme, and I think it’s a shame ITV would rather frolic on snowflakes than allow someone to challenge things. ”
Good Morning Britain airs on ITV at 6am on weekdays.
