Piers Morgan has claimed that he had received messages on behalf of the Royal Family thanking him for “standing up” to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
And he’s asked Meghan Markle to “sit down” with him for an interview similar to the one she and Harry gave to Oprah Winfrey so that he can ask her “tougher questions about all of your claims.”
Morgan has since said ITV bosses told him to apologize or stop.
Morgan appeared on U.S. television show Extra to discuss the lingering aftermath of his criticism of Meghan and told host Billy Bush that he had the support of some members of the royal family.
“I have received some messages on behalf of several members of the royal family,” said the 56-year-old.
When asked by Bush if the support came from “upper level people”, Morgan replied, “I’m not going to go into who it was. But I would say, gratitude that someone stood up.”
Former tabloid editor Morgan said he didn’t believe Meghan after telling Winfrey she was ignored after addressing her mental health issues with characters at the palace.
The Duchess also said there had been racist comments about son Archie’s skin tone before he was born.
Speaking of Extra, Morgan said his only regret from the controversy was briefly walking off the set of Good Morning Britain after clashing with weatherman Alex Beresford.
Morgan insisted he returned to the program that morning. And he rejected his stance on Meghan and Harry is racist.
“I’m not a racist,” he said. “Nothing I’ve ever said about Meghan Markle is racially or racially motivated. I was very critical of Prince Harry and the last time I checked that he was white, I found that narrative deeply offensive.”
Bush, the cousin of former US President George W. Bush, asked what Morgan Meghan would say if he had the chance.
He said he would ask for an interview similar to the one she and Harry gave Winfrey.
Morgan said, “I would say to Meghan Markle, ‘Look, sit down with me and your husband for an equally lengthy interview and let me ask you tougher questions about all of your claims.
“But let me ask you a broader question: if you hate the royal family so much, why do you keep your royal titles? Why do you keep calling yourself the Duke and Duchess of Sussex? Why would you do this if it wasn’t about making millions and billions of dollars? And playing the victim like you do is frankly nausea. “
In a separate interview on US television Monday, Morgan told prominent Conservative news personality Tucker Carlson that Meghan was a “delusional duchess on the rise”.
