PM to make Covid announcement on Easter Monday – what will he say

Boris Johnson is expected to hold a coronavirus briefing on Downing Street on Easter Monday.

The announcement is widely reported that he will speak about a number of rules and regulations that the government will put in place as part of their roadmap outside of the lockdown.

A number of cities across England will be testing vaccination records for events – such as comedy nights and sporting events where large crowds are expected.

Sporting events taking part in the test include the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield, the FA Cup semi-finals (Leicester v Southampton) at Wembley, three 10k runs at Hatfield Park, Hertfordshire and the Carabao Cup final (Manchester City versus Tottenham) at Wembley.

The Prime Minister is expected to talk about overseas travel in his announcement on Monday.

The government has already said that foreign holidays will not be allowed until May 17th at the earliest.

It is reported that a traffic light system with red, amber and green ratings for countries could come into effect.

For countries in the red and amber categories, this means that travelers must be quarantined or isolated on their return from vacation.

Individuals returning from green category countries do not need to be quarantined or isolated, but may need to have Covid tests before leaving and returning to the UK.

The Prime Minister is also expected to cover the restrictions, which will be lifted in a week’s April 12th.

On this day, unnecessary stores as well as gyms, nail salons and hairdressers will reopen.

Outdoor attractions such as zoos, theme parks and drive-in theaters, as well as outdoor restaurants such as beer gardens, pubs and restaurants with outdoor areas, will resume.

In his Easter message, the Prime Minister acknowledged that it had been a “very tough” year but said the holidays brought new optimism.

“That was a very difficult 12 months. But as always, the arrival of Easter brings new hope, ”he said.

“And this year, more than ever, it promises us all brighter days.”
