Police officer dies after US Capitol riot

The US Capitol Police report that Capitol Police Officer Brian D Sicknick died of injuries while on duty as a result of the riots at the Capitol on Wednesday.

According to the report, Mr Sicknick was reacting to the riots in the U.S. Capitol and was injured while engaging in physical activity with protesters.

He returned to his department office and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mr. Sicknick’s death is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Squad, Capitol Police, and federal investigators.

Democratic leaders of the House Appropriations Committee said the “tragic loss” of a Capitol police officer should “remind us all of the bravery of the law enforcement officers who protected us, our colleagues, Congress officials, the press corps and other important workers.” during the hours-long takeover of the Capitol by pro-Trump protesters.
