After losing Hillary Clinton in 2016, it was a open question whether the path of the Democrats back to the White House would depend on turning increasingly purple sunbelt states around or on winning back old states with “blue walls” in the rust belt. Recent polls show that Biden is performing better in the upper Midwest than in the South. However, if the Democrats are to take control of the Senate, they must do well in places like Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina as well.
In this portion of the FiveThirtyEight Politics podcast, the crew discusses the state of the Senate and the President’s races in the sun belt. They also consider scenarios where President Trump could outperform his declining chances and win a second term.
