In one recorded phone call lasting for hoursPresident Trump urged Georgian Foreign Secretary Brad Raffensperger to find enough votes to dismiss the Georgian presidential election result and suggested that Raffensperger and his lawyer could face criminal liability if they fail to do so. Trump’s plan to put pressure on the secretary comes when a dozen Republicans plan to vote to reject votes from states won by President-elect Joe Biden. It also happens that the Georgians take part in the elections again, this time to vote on two runoff elections. The results determine which party will control the US Senate.
In this episode of FiveThirtyEight Politics podcast, Washington Correspondent for the Atlanta Journal Constitution Tia Mitchell discussed why Republicans are trying to overthrow the elections. They also check the status of the runoff election in Georgia the day before election day.
