Politics Podcast: What Comes Next For Democrats’ Election Legislation

The Democrats brought their sweeping electoral laws to the Act for the people, in the Senate on Tuesday. The Senate Republicans planned to thwart the bill, which means Democrats will have to come up with a bill that can get 10 Republican votes or change Senate filibuster rules, both of which seem unlikely. This comes after West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin proposed Compromise legislation last week, which major Republicans rejected. On this episode of the FiveThirtyEight Politics Podcast, the crew discusses what comes next as the Democrats attempt to pass electoral reforms. They also examine how debates about the “critical race theory” flowed into the culture wars, particularly in schools and state parliaments.
