While Coons laughed and apologized, Wallace added, “You said President Schumer. I think Senator Manchin. … Perhaps we should say President Manchin at this point! “
Coons and Wallace continued their discussion of Biden’s agenda, some of which are pending as a compromise is sought with Senator Joe Manchin (DW. Virginia) and others in Congress unwilling to go as far as Biden stands on a hefty package of expenses. Coons predicted the package would eventually be approved, along with an infrastructure bill.
Wallace asked Coons if, as an old friend of Biden’s Delaware, he was giving the president advice on how his legislation would fare in Congress.
“We have heart-to-heart conversations” Coons said, “I appreciate the opportunity to speak to him directly. One of the reasons I have supported, support, and will continue to support, Joe Biden is because he is a person who believes in us deeply. He believes in our nation. “
