He revealed the bizarre gift during an appearance on former England striker Peter Crouch’s podcast on BBC Radio Five Live.
In a discussion about gifts, Crouch confessed to having given his model wife, Abbey Clancy, a raincoat for her birthday three years in a row.
And William added: “I gave my wife a pair of binoculars once – she never made me forget it.
“That was at the beginning of the advertisement – think that sealed the deal.
“It didn’t go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her binoculars, it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
However, there will be an honor that Kate will seemingly miss on her birthday next weekend.
She will not hear the traditional carillon of Westminster Abbey when she celebrates her 40th birthday as cost savings have been initiated.
It is normal for the high-ranking royals to ring the abbey bells on their birthdays, including Kate and Camilla.
But they stopped in April 2020 and changes were made when they restarted in September 2021.
The bells no longer ring on the birthdays of Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward or the Duchess of Cornwall, and the same goes for the Cambridges and their children, reports Hello magazine.
In future they will only be heard for the Queen and Prince Charles.
