Prison officer jailed over affair with convicted murderer

A prison officer who was having an affair with a convicted double murderer was arrested.

Lauren McIntyre, 32, had a sexual relationship with a man who served in life because of the brutal murders of his former girlfriend and young daughter.

Her argument with Andrew Roberts, who was incarcerated in 2003, took place in 2018 while he was in prison on the Isle of Wight.

McIntyre also gave Roberts the personal cell phone number of another prison officer who knew he intended to attack her colleague.

She was unable to raise the alarm because of the attack and the officer suffered significant head injuries in the attack.

The mother of three, McIntyre, of St. John’s Wood Road in Ryde, Isle of Wight, pleaded guilty to four charges of misconduct in public office.

She appeared on the Isle of Wight Crown Court Thursday and was sentenced to three years in prison.

Judge Roger Hetherington told her: “The effect of this type of wrongdoing is obviously to undermine the security and integrity of the prison service.

“It corrodes everyone in the prison system and diminishes the service of public assessment, whose support is so badly needed if the public is to have confidence in the criminal justice system.

“You had no regard for it just for your own selfish interests.”
