Priti Patel has asked UK-based influencers to “show off” their overseas travel while England is under a national lockdown.
The Home Secretary blew up photos shared by some on social media showing them enjoying vacation hotspots around the world.
Speaking in the House of Commons, she also said there had been reports of people showing up on skis at St. Pancras Railway Station in London.
It came when she announced tough new border rules, including a “managed isolation process” in hotels for those unable to be refused entry into the UK.
This includes those coming home from countries where the UK has already imposed international travel bans.
She told MPs: “Travel expenses are down by 90% compared to that time last year. There are clear travel bans for countries that are on the red list and that will continue, and today’s announcement will include the number of travelers Decrease passengers, I want to emphasize because people just shouldn’t travel.
“We see the examples … I’ll be shouting out some of them. Border Force has given me examples of people showing up with their skis even at St. Pancras, which is clearly unacceptable.
“We see a lot of influencers on social media saying what parts of the world they are in, mostly sunny parts of the world.
“Going on vacation is no exception and it is important that people stay home.”
Some influencers who are overseas have stated that they are there for business and insisted that their trips are not a holiday.
