“Prospect” of lockdown in England can be eased in mid-February

Boris Johnson has said there is a “prospect” that the coronavirus lockdown in England may be relaxed in mid-February.

Speaking at press conference # 10, the Prime Minister said: “If a very sizeable segment of the most vulnerable groups have been vaccinated, there is a real prospect of beginning easing some of these measures.

“But you will also appreciate that there are many caveats and many ifs in it. The most important thing is that we all now follow the directions.”

Hospital admissions for people with Covid-19 have hit another record high, as figures from NHS England show.

A total of 3,351 registrations were reported in England for January 3rd, surpassing the previous record of 3,145 on January 2nd.

During the first wave of the virus, approvals peaked at 3,099 on April 1, 2020.

The number includes all patients admitted in the last 24 hours who were known to have Covid-19, as well as all patients who were diagnosed with Covid-19 in the hospital in the last 24 hours.
