According to a new survey, the majority of the public is in favor of introducing a circuit breaker lockout in October.
YouGov asked more than 3,390 adults in the UK on Wednesday whether they would support or oppose two weeks of strict restrictions later this month.
68% of respondents said they supported the measure compared to 20% who said they opposed it, while 12% said they did not know.
The poll found that 65% of Conservative voters would support a breaker, compared with 76% of Labor voters and 75% of Liberal Democrats.
The results will increase pressure on Prime Minister Boris Johnson to impose a brief, harsh lockdown to curb the recurrence of coronavirus cases.
