Russian President Vladimir Putin personally monitored his massive military exercises in western Russia today.

His appearance as Commander in Chief came when footage showed a huge landing exercise in Kaliningrad on its border with Europe.

About 2,000 soldiers and more than 200 pieces of military equipment participated in the exercise when troops stormed ashore in a war game with the Baltic Sea and other fleets.

Before the troops landed, a squad of attack ships launched artillery fire along the coast to neutralize the defenses.

The landings of paratroopers and marines were supported by Su-30SM multipurpose fighters and Su-24 front-end bombers of the Baltic Fleet.

In another video, Russian attack helicopters were seen performing the Zapad-2021 large-scale exercise with 200,000 soldiers in action, designed to highlight Russia’s military readiness towards the West and neighboring Ukraine.

The “helicopter carousel” attacks by the Mi-35 and Mi-24 were aimed at inflicting constant fire damage on the communication routes, command posts and communication routes of the areas occupied by the “enemy”.

Russia has announced that its armed forces will not return to their military bases until mid-October, more than a month after the end of the exercises.

“The return of command organizations and troops to their permanent locations after participating in the exercise is due by mid-October,” said the Ministry of Defense.

The reason for the delay is not clear.

Nine shooting ranges in Russia, including in the Baltic Sea, and five in Belarus are the scene of the joint military exercises that are worrying Ukraine.

Putin was supposed to monitor joint exercises with Belarus along with Armenia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia today at a military rifle range in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

“The president will watch the exercise in the Mulino Mountains in the Nizhny Novgorod region,” said Rossiya 1 TV channel.

The massive exercises and the announcement of closer relations between Russia and the dictatorship of Belarus shocked Ukraine.

Kyiv Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said: “The scenarios practiced there pose serious risks (for Ukraine).

“We understand that if Russia absorbs Belarus one way or another, we will have 1,000 kilometers of additional threat to our sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

His predecessor Pavlo Klimkin warned that Russia was trying to almost encircle Ukraine with troops.

He called for a call for help from NATO.

The exercises run over part of Russia from the Baltic Sea to the borders of Ukraine, while separate exercises will be conducted in the Arctic.
