Reports of man 'crushed to death' as crane drops load days before Christmas

A man was reportedly bruised to death after a crane dropped its load on a construction site.

Rescue workers, including paramedics, firefighters and police, rushed to the scene of the accident on East Road, East London at around 1:30 p.m. this afternoon (Tuesday 21 December).

Police confirmed that a man was hit by a falling object and pronounced dead at the scene. MyLondon reports.

Further details of the incident are currently unknown, but it is believed that it occurred at a construction site near the intersection of the street and Vestry Street.

Both roads remain closed and a cordon is in place, with delays in the area and various bus connections being rerouted.

A statement from the London Fire Brigade said: “In an incident on East Road in Hackney, firefighters were called in to assist paramedics.

“The brigade was called at 1:31 pm. Two fire trucks from Shoreditch and Islington and a fire department from Euston Fire Station are on site.”

The Met Police was also asked for a comment.
