Meredith’s roommate Amanda Knox and her then boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were also convicted but acquitted in 2011.

Last year Knox said of Guede: “To this day I am shocked that he is the forgotten killer.

“The one who has been quietly hidden, convicted of a lesser crime, and not faced with the burden of forever being associated with Meredith’s death.

“I know that many, many people have suffered a lot because of what he did.”
