Vladimir Putin may have sent up to half a million soldiers to the Ukrainian border as war fears mount in Europe.
A senior analyst today warned that thanks to “total mobilization” at a level not seen in nearly 50 years at the height of the Cold War, the country is on the “doorstep of war”.
Russia is ready to go to war with the US if it steps in, it is alleged – despite Joe Biden’s demand for calm.
Today the Russian Navy began exercises in the Black Sea to demonstrate their strength before two US warships arrived in the region.
The videos released today appear to show heavy weapons in the Krasnodar Territory and naval ships on the Don.
It is known that for the first time since the end of the Soviet era, Russia is switching landing ships and other ships from the Caspian Sea to the Black Sea.
The terrifying new footage also showed Russia’s Black Sea Fleet maneuvering today – while Ukraine also conducted naval exercises off Crimea.
Yesterday, Joe Biden called for a summit with Putin in a neutral country – but Russia has praised decisive action if new Western sanctions follow.
This is because a seasoned independent Russian defense analyst, Pavel Felgenhauer, has alleged that Putin may have ordered the move of “more than half a million” troops involving forces from the Pacific to the Baltic Sea.
When asked on the Ekho Moscow radio whether Russia was “at the door of war”, he replied: “In practice we are.”
He said: “An unprecedented mobilization of the Russian armed forces is taking place.
“All armed forces. This has not happened since 1973 or 1962. Total mobilization. All armed forces.
“The exact number of people taking part is not officially stated. Apparently more than half a million. “
He stressed that troop movements are taking place during the day to show that Russia is “fully mobilized” and “in full combat readiness”.
He said: “If we do something with Ukraine, the Americans said they would support it, then we are always ready to go to war with America.”
He claimed that Russian was preparing “a profound operation on the total defeat of the Ukrainian armed forces by a strike, containment on the Donbass front itself, and a powerful blow by Kharkiv of Voronezh, Bryansk and Belgorod that cut off and surround the Ukrainian group in Donbass.
“And a counter-attack from the Crimea. Plus a landing to free Mykolaiv and Odessa from Ukraine. “
He emphasized, “This does not mean that it will necessarily begin. But the preparation is serious. “
Such an attack would be possible until September, he predicted.
“In order for the West not to interfere and leave Ukraine to be devoured, we have to show that we are ready for an all-out war.”
Felgenhauer claimed: “Putin says that Russians and Ukrainians are one people and should live in one state. One people, one empire.
“And that the Ukrainian nation-state and the Ukrainian nation are a disgusting chimera invented by the Austro-Hungarians.”
The current troop movements show “a fundamental difference from the routine of recent years,” he told the independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta.
“The Russian Defense Ministry had begun an unprecedented general mobilization across the country from Chukotka (near Alaska) to Kaliningrad (between Poland and Lithuania) and the advance of troops to the borders of Ukraine under the pretext of a ‘combat readiness test’. ”
Felgenhauer, who has worked as a defense analyst and expert on the Russian media for three decades, said: “All of this looks like the Russian General Staff is gathering strength and resources for a possible“ deep ”strategic operation.
“A powerful armored wedge on the right flank, which hits through Kharkiv to the southwest, cuts through the weak Ukrainian defenses and breaks through places where no one has fought since 1943.
“Somewhere on the left bank, in the lower reaches of the Dnieper, the oncoming southern wedge from the Crimea flows into the northern one.
“Powerful air forces are adding an additional element of chaos to the Ukrainian command and control system.
“The main Russian-speaking cities in the south and east (Ukraine) will be occupied in the course of a victorious and fleeting lightning war.
“The rest of Ukraine is denied access to the sea.
“As announced recently, the end of Ukraine as a state will come.”
Ukraine gained independence in 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union, but the two nations have had hostile relations for three decades.
Russia has been regularly accused of collaborating with Ukrainian separatists in the east, and Ukrainian officials have often claimed Moscow intended to split the country in half.
Many Russian-speaking people live in large parts of the Donbas conflict region in eastern Ukraine, and a large number of them have Russian passports.
Putin has loudly pledged to protect Russian citizens in other countries and provide a possible pretext for incursions into Ukraine.
In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea, a move that generated international condemnation and further demonstrated Putin’s intention to expand its borders to include former Soviet countries.
An estimated 14,000 people were killed in the conflict
Russia said its naval exercises included “a detachment of Black Sea Fleet ships” that were launching artillery fire as part of a combat readiness test.
These included the frigate Admiral Makarov, the small rocket ships Graivoron and Vyshny Volochek, the air-cushion rocket ship Samum, the minesweeper Ivan Golubets, and large landing ships.
