Salisbury train crash sees 50 firefighters called to scene

More than 50 firefighters were called to the scene of the accident near Salisbury tonight.

Emergency services were called after two trains collided in Grateley, which borders Wiltshire and Hampshire.

Police and fire services were called on the line between Salisbury and Andover. Wiltshire Live Reports.

The incident was first reported shortly after 7 p.m.

All lines between Westbury and Southampton Central are closed.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We are currently on the scene of a train wreck involving two trains between Andover and Salisbury.

“We are responding with the fire and rescue services at the location near Grateley. Will be updated as soon as we have more information.”

The Great Western Railway said a disruption was expected between Salisbury and Grately.

A spokesman said: “We have received reports of an incident that is currently being investigated between Salisbury and Grately.

“The train traffic can be interrupted by the area.

“Further information follows.”
