Schoolboy left in coma after being beaten by gang of youths in city centre

A student was in a coma after allegedly being attacked by a gang of youth who relentlessly kicked and beat him while he was helpless on the floor.

CCTV footage from the scene showed that up to 10 unidentified people repeatedly assaulted the 15-year-old boy, with some appearing to have devices in hand.

The boy, dubbed Ukrainian Yuriy Khruchenyk, is reported to remain in a coma.

Many reacted indignantly after the incident near the Beaugrenelle shopping center in the French capital near the Eiffel Tower on the evening of January 15.

The Ukrainian ambassador to France said on Twitter that he had prayed for the boy’s recovery.

Vadym Omelchenko said: “A tragic incident in Paris in which unknown Ukrainian teenager Yuri was beaten. We pray for his recovery.

“Our consuls are in constant contact with the young man’s relatives and work with French law enforcement agencies to conduct a quick and objective investigation.”

Also on Twitter, Xavier Iacovelli, a French senator, said: “This video is unbearable in which young Yuriy, a 15-year-old student, is lynched by 10 people armed with iron bars who clearly intend to kill him.

“My thoughts are with Yuriy, who is in a coma, and his family.”

French actor Omar Sy also responded to the savage attack, posting on social media: “Get well well, Yuriy, I am thinking of you and yours.”

According to Mail Online, investigators have evidence of an organized gang attack in which a group of teenagers from the southern suburb of Vanves are held responsible.

An investigative source reportedly said, “They saw the gang run towards them, but Yuriy tried to get away.

“When he tried to run, he fell over and was caught by the gang who started kicking and punching him and beating him with iron bars and baseball bats.

“He was taken to the hospital where he was found to have fractured skull and it was decided to put him in an induced coma.”

Elsewhere, it was reported that Paris prosecutors opened a homicide investigation into the incident.
