An intelligence agent reportedly shot himself playing Russian roulette with a friend.
Denis D, 36, worked in a top secret role at the Lubyanka headquarters of Vladimir Putin’s counterintelligence service FSB in Moscow.
The married father of three had gone to drink with an architect friend after finishing work and they drank two bottles of brandy.
They then shared a third bottle on the way to his friend’s country house, reported Moskovsky Komsomolets.
The 42-year-old architect took his traumatic pistol and “joked” with his friend about Russian roulette.
“The FSB officer liked that,” but it led to a horrific accident, according to the newspaper.
“While his friend went to the refrigerator for cold water, something irreversible happened.
“The architect heard a shot and immediately sobered up.
“His friend was already dead.”
A police investigation is ongoing after his body is found in the village of Zapovednik.
The deceased had told his friend that he was responsible for a secret FSB camp in Lubyanka, it was reported.
The men had met at “airsoft” shooting, a game with replica weapons.
The architect said he kept the gun to protect it in his country house outside Moscow.
