Showcase confirms date Cinemas in England will reopen

Showcase Cinemas has announced that it will reopen its cinemas in England and Scotland on May 17th – from Stage 3 of the government’s reopening plan.

Film fans can look forward to a lot. Blockbusters like Black Widow, Top Gun: Maverick, Fast & Furious 9, A Quiet Place Part 2, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Mission Impossible 7 will be released this year.

There will also be plenty of new family movies, including Peter Rabbit 2, Croods 2, Hotel Transylvania 4, Jungle Cruise, Cruella, and Space Jam: A New Legacy, all of which hit the big screens before the end of July. The highly anticipated next episode of the James Bond franchise, No Time To Die, will also be released in September.

Showcase hosts some special events as well as film screenings and promotions to welcome guests back.

Mark Barlow, General Manager at Showcase Cinemas, said: “It’s fair to say it’s been a while since our guests got to see movies where they should be – on the big screen. We love you to be able to greet everyone from May 17th with an amazing selection of films.

“The health of our employees and customers was and is our top priority. We were delighted to receive feedback from our guests on the security measures we implemented when we reopened our cinemas last year as part of our Be Showcase Safe program. It will be back when we reopen to ensure our guests are as comfortable as possible at all of the showcase cinema locations. “

There will be Covid rules and guidelines in place, including staggered movie start times, social distancing measures throughout the cinema, and improved cleaning systems, including a non-chemical antiviral spray to be used on each seat after each screening, as well as additional air-cleaning systems for the auditorium, the airborne virus kills.

The cinema chain also introduced new hygiene practices for employees and customers, including hand sanitizer for guests, and added protective grids at the box offices and extensive staff training.
