A week ago, WhatsApp officially introduced a new feature: Temporary Messages, which allows you to send Whatsapps with an expiration date that are automatically deleted within 7 days. This way you can save conversations that take up unnecessary space. And something similar is coming to Facebook Messenger and Instagram, only more radically.
This new feature, dubbed Vanish Mode or Ephemeral Mode, implements temporary conversations in the Messenger app and the Instagram social network as, once activated, it makes it possible to send messages that automatically disappear. The operation is simple: the messages disappear after they have been seen and you leave the chat.
As soon as you leave the conversation they delete themselves – unlike temporary WhatsApp messages. And not only text messages, but also memes, GIF stickers or comments will be deleted when you activate the Vanish mode.
Activate ephemeral mode on Instagram and Messenger
How active? Well, as simple as the “swipe” in Tinder: when you’re chatting on Messenger or in direct messages on Instagram, just slide your finger up the screen: this gesture activates ephemeral mode. To turn it off, do the opposite: slide your finger across the screen.
But what happens if, although I have activated ephemeral mode, my contact takes a screenshot of the chat so that it is a record of what we were talking about? If someone does, you’ll be notified that that contact took a screenshot while the mode was active.
